In 1980, Werner Schmeer and Alfons Weber founded Viasit office seating. At the Neunkirchen site, highly motivated employees manufacture exactly those office chairs that the office chair market also needs. The families that own Viasit have a very good feel for the market and only develop models that offer the customer real added value. Ergonomics at the office workplace has been Viasit's specialty from the very beginning, which is why the product range almost exclusively includes particularly ergonomic swivel chairs, including many NPR models. These office chairs comply with the DIN EN 1335 standard valid in Germany and also the Dutch practice guideline NPR 1813. The Netherlands regulates the adjustment options for office swivel chairs in NPR1813, which far exceed the German standard in terms of adjustability. The company still has its production site in Neunkirchen in Saarland and is now managed by Thomas Schmeer and his father Werner Schmeer. Viasit has been EMAS-certified since October 2017: EMAS stands for "Eco-Management and Audit Scheme". EMAS is an instrument developed by the European Communities in 1993 for companies to measure their environmental performance want to improve. 

The structure of an environmental management system and the processes also correspond to ISO 14001 at EMAS. EMAS goes beyond a pure management system and is significantly stricter than ISO 14001. Viasit has been certified according to the level standard of the European Office Furniture Industry Association FEMB since 2021. LEVEL is an independent, comprehensive standard that takes a holistic approach to sustainability testing.
